Three weeks into the season, Sedalia sprint car driver Jonathan Cornell picked up his first victory at Double-X Speedway in California, Missouri on Sunday, May 23.

Cornell, who claimed the track points championship in California last season, preceded his first feature win with two runner-up finishes. Double-X Speedway opened its racing schedule May 7.

Zach Daum was runner-up, Warrensburg’s Taylor Walton was third and California’s Tyler Blank placed sixth.

Another Sedalia driver, Mike Schrader, won his second straight hobby stock feature Sunday in California. It is his second straight win after a runner-up finish on opening night. Chuck Coffey, of Windsor, followed Schrader.

Also notching a second consecutive win, Tipton driver Harlan Dowell won the street stocks feature over Dalton Imhoff and California driver Evan Hays.

Jack Wagner of Lone Jack won the 600cc micro sprints feature.

Double-X Speedway hosts its annual “Tribute to Jesse and Daniel” Memorial Race featuring ASCS Warrior Region sprint drivers in its feature. Cornell currently leads Danny Thoman and Walton in region point standings.

Gates open at 5 p.m. in California.
