I am always amazed with the Healthy Living Action Group volunteers who support and encourage each one of us. They support us without judgment. I love the Transformation Tuesdays. It is a great example of how small steps can lead to big changes. I cherish our group’s time together! My life has been blessed.

Six months ago, I hadn’t exercised in years — I couldn’t get down (or up!) from the floor, I couldn’t walk a half mile without pain or cramping in my legs, and I was tired all the time. No amount of sleep or rest made me feel better. I needed to change my diet and increase my activity level.

Now, I can do all those things and much more! I won first place (and a medal!) in my age category in the novice decision of the Firecracker Mile. I also accomplished a goal of riding my bike on the Katy Trail to Green Ridge and back to Sedalia (24.2 miles). There is so much more I want to be able to accomplish this year during Healthy U 2017 and I want to continue to make progress in the years to come.

I am the new kid in class, only joining Healthy U in June. For the previous six months, I’d been involved with HU2, the brainchild of former Healthy U students. I’d received advice and encouragement from the Healthy U Class of 2016, seeing some success with nutrition and fitness. However, when I was promoted into Healthy U and paired with coaches, I have started to see even more improvements as I work toward my goals.

So far Healthy U has been everything I hoped it would be. I have amazing mentors, incredible peers and I don’t feel like we’re competing with each other because we’re all competing with ourselves and all following our own pace. I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to do this with. Overall, I feel better, I am stronger and I love prepping my meals.

The Healthy U motto is “Learn. Change. Inspire.” I feel like the program lives up to that motto completely. I have learned so much about myself, food, emotions, everything. I have changed my eating habits, fitness plan and mental state. I am learning it has to be a daily choice to get healthy and stay healthy.

The support from our Healthy U group has been tremendous. I do not feel I would be nearly as successful without them. I have signed up for the Tough Mudder and cannot wait to complete it with them.

So far this journey has been filled with a lot of ups and downs. Just when I think I would have things figured out life would throw a curve ball. But the amazing thing is the support group I have has helped me to stay on track. I’m looking forward to the second half of the year!

I am thrilled about the progress I’ve made thus far, be it physically, emotionally and even spiritually. I’m so appreciative of the opportunity to truly focus on my overall health. Throughout the last six months I’ve set my mind to finding what works practically and realistically in order to achieve maintainable, long-term success. I’m pulling from past experiences, the resources available as a Healthy U student, as well as the offered support; each component playing a role in my current success. I learned early on in the program, this year isn’t just about weight loss (for me), in fact it is about gaining control over my health, and taking steps to build a sustainable, lasting lifestyle.

The time I have spent in Healthy U so far has been incredible. I have had a complete paradigm switch in my approach to weight. Initially, weight loss was my main goal. Now, weight loss is a byproduct of living a healthy and active lifestyle. Living and dying emotionally by the number on a scale is ridiculous. I have more energy now than I have had in years.

The other side of the coin for me has been accountability. I could not have accomplished what I have so far without opening up to the Healthy U team and my family and friends. It is very important to set goals that push my comfort zone and share them with my support systems to keep motivation and accountability strong.

These last six months have been totally amazing for me. I have learned so much about health and fitness and also so much about myself on a much deeper level. I truly think this opportunity has saved my life! I am forever thankful for Healthy U and my other 11 team members who will always hold a special place in my heart.

The last six months have been a roller coaster of emotions — happy, sad, elated, frustrated, defeated and triumphant. Healthy U has been such a wonderful opportunity and I am extremely thankful for their love, continued support and tools that inspire my health. The last couple of months have been more than stressful and through Healthy U I am trying to learn how to cope rather than turning to food. The teammates, friends and family have led me to success. And by success, I mean remaining sane!

Halfway through this year and I don’t recognize my old self. It’s been a journey, not just physically but more so emotionally and mentally. I am truly starting to catch a few glimpses of that person I want to be! I wish I had pushed myself this hard in the past, but that path led me here. Where I feel honored and blessed to be a member of this amazing group.
