20th annual Cupid’s Ball draws record crowd Saturday

Robert Goodwin, of Sedalia, dances for last time with his daughter Leia Goodwin, 12, at the 20th annual Cupid’s Ball hosted at Smith-Cotton High School Saturday night. Leia will be above the age limit for next year’s ball. The fundraising ball is hosted annually by the Women’s Service League. Event Co-Chairs Candi Snyder and Lindsay Benbrooke said there were 32 12-year-olds attending the event this year.

Corbett Martin, of Sedalia, the only great-grandfather at the 20th annual Cupid’s Ball, has his portrait made with his great-granddaughter Averée Grudde, 6. Martin said this was Averée’s first time to attend the event. The theme this year for the ball was a traditional Valentine’s Day motif titled “Dance Your Heart Out.”

Girls take to the dance floor at Cupid’s Ball Saturday evening at SCHS. WSL Co-Chairs Candi Snyder and Lindsay Benbrooke said the event had the largest attendance in 20 years. The WSL made an approximate total of $9,160 before expenses. All proceeds will go back into the Sedalia community.
