The northbound lanes of South Limit Avenue were closed for about an hour Wednesday morning after Sedalia Water Company crews accidentally ruptured a natural gas line in the 1900 block of South Limit Avenue at 10:56 a.m. The Sedalia Police and Fire departments responded and blocked off both northbound lanes of South Limit. Empire Gas Company officials also responded and shut off the leaking gas at a nearby valve.
Sedalia Fire Department Battalion Chief Paul Withers said the crews working on the water line accidentally ruptured a 4-inch hole in the gas line. “The wind was in our favor this morning since it helped neutralized the gas that leaked from the line,” Withers said. He said no businesses were closed because of the leak and no evacuations were ordered due to the leak. The lanes were reopened about an hour later.
