A Flash Flood Watch has been issued effective 7 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Saturday in Pettis County.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy rainfall is expected for east central Kansas and west central Missouri Thursday night. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop Thursday night along a frontal boundary lifting north into east central Kansas and west central Missouri. Thursday morning storms within this area could set the stage for flash flooding Thursday night.
NWS also reported it is expecting additional and potentially more widespread activity Friday night along a southeastward-moving cold front. The Watch includes Bates, Cass, Henry, Johnson and Pettis counties in Missouri and Linn and Miami counties in Kansas.
From 7 p.m. Thursday through 7 a.m. Saturday, scattered thunderstorms could bring 2 to 3 inches of rainfall Thursday night, with an additional 1 to 2 inches possible Friday night into Saturday morning.
Excessive rainfall could lead to flash flooding of creeks, streams low-lying areas and urban locations. Flooding may occur in areas that are not typically flood prone.
A Flash Flood Watch means conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a dangerous situation. Citizens should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
