Sedalia artist Linda Hoover works on a mural Wednesday morning on the west side of Janie’s Bail Bonds, 113 E. Fourth St. The mural, featuring local celebrities Dorothy Dawn, Jack Oakie and Ann Baker, was the project of the 2015-16 Leadership Sedalia project. Hoover began painting Dawn, who was an American movie actress that had 40 film credits between the years of 1922 to 1930, Wednesday.
Early Wednesday morning, Linda Hoover works on the mural that measures 17-by-22.5-feet and is six-feet from the ground. Hoover said artist Glenda Miller has been helping with the project. The women began June 9 painting the white background and hope to finished within four weeks. “That’s the thing about her,” Hoover said of actress Dorothy Dawn. “She had those big eyes.”
To create the mural, Linda Hoover is using acrylic paint. “In theory, it should last forever,” she said. “Because it’s a plastic base.”
Artist Linda Hoover uses a scissor-lift to reach the large mural Wednesday. Hoover said when she began the project Wednesday morning the wind was blowing at a good clip. She added that she planned to finish for the day at noon before the sun reached that side of the building.
