Two killed in Johnson crash

Two Chilhowee residents were killed in a single-vehicle accident at 12:56 a.m. Friday in Johnson County, and their driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Christopher L. Lagud, 43, of Chilhowee, was driving north on state Route 13, just south of state Route 2, while speeding, per witness statements. His vehicle began sliding due to water on the road and it traveled off the left side of the road, striking a tree.

Two passengers, Riley S. Battles, 3, and Crystal P. Lagud, 25, were both pronounced dead at the scene by Johnson County Coroner C.L. Holdren.

Another passenger, Daniel R. Webster, 35, of Chilhowee, sustained moderate injuries but refused treatment at the scene. Christopher Lagud sustained minor injuries, but also refused treatment.

Lagud was also arrested on charges of two counts of involuntary manslaughter, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident, failure to display valid license plates, failure to drive on the right half of the road resulting in an accident, no seat belt and driving without a valid license.

Reports indicate Christopher Lagud was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. It is unknown if Battles, Crystal Lagud or Webster were using a safety device.

Man seriously injured in Benton

An Oak View man sustained serious injuries after he was struck by a vehicle at 5 p.m. Thursday in Benton County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Jason A. Donovan, 41, of Kansas City, was driving an ATV west on Lakeside Avenue, east of Zenith. He approached a pedestrian in the roadway, Gary R. Crispin, 64, and Donovan tried to avoid Crispin but they crossed paths. Donovan’s vehicle struck Crispin.

Crispin was taken by Warsaw-Lincoln Ambulance District to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton for his injuries.

La Monte teen hurt in Johnson

A La Monte teenager was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 9:55 p.m. Thursday in Johnson County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Jackie R. Jensen, 17, was driving west on U.S. Highway 50, a mile east of state Route 13, when her vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and struck a fence.

Jensen, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by Johnson County Ambulance District to Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg with minor injuries.
