OUTSTANDING SENIORS
This is the fifth in a series of profiles of area graduates. On the recommendation of school administrators, one senior from each Kaysinger Conference School and graduates from Sedalia School District 200 will be profiled, sharing their reflections of high school and plans for the future.
Some students have a natural curiosity and always want to learn all they can about any topic they are presented.
Jakob Erdmann, of Windsor, is that type of student and it is his curiosity and willingness to study and learn all he can that has lead him to a potential career.
“I’ve always been fascinated with how and why things work in the way they do,” Erdmann said by phone. “I’ve taken several math and science classes and a lot of dual-credit classes and so I’ve decided to study civil engineering at William Jewell in Liberty this fall.
“After I graduate I will have several options and I am considering entering the military as an officer, perhaps either in the Air Force or the Navy,” Erdmann added.
A talented athlete in many sports, his abilities on the football field have earned Erdmann a scholarship to continue to play football in college.
Erdmann played football and basketball for four years, baseball for three years, ran track for two years, and was a member of the golf team during his freshman year in high school.
He also was the president of Windsor’s FBLA chapter and NHS and was an officer in Student Council and Spanish Club and was a member of FCCLA and served as a peer teacher.
“I think all of the clubs I belonged to and my selection to Boy’s State during my junior year really benefited me because they helped me to become more comfortable as a public speaker,” Erdmann said. “They really helped to build my confidence but also helped me a lot in learning how to manage my time.
“I learned how many tasks I was capable of juggling and still do things to the best of my ability,” Erdmann added. “If anything, I wish I would have started to be more active during my freshman year in high school and not waited to become more involved.”
Erdmann said there were several memorable moments he would take with him from his time at Windsor, many of them surrounding athletics and his family.
“We made it to the district finals in basketball this year,” Erdmann said. “We were only the second team to do that, the first team was one my brother played on in 2004.
“I am very similar to my family and my siblings because we are all very active in athletics,” he added. “I have learned that everything I want to do is possible through them and their support.”
