State Fair Community College soccer added five players from Smith-Cotton High School with national letters of intents Monday.
Sarah Garcia, Kristen Farrell, Jacey Etter signed letters to join the first-ever women’s soccer team at SFCC, while Landon Dove and Brendan Hofheins signed letters to join the first soccer team at State Fair since 2001.
Garcia is a 4-year varsity starter at left back and was named Honorable Mention All-District as a junior, scoring four goals. She has three assists this season.
“Sarah has always been one of the hardest working and toughest players we have,” Smith-Cotton head coach Adam Murray said.
Farrell did not play soccer at S-C her junior year and Etter is not currently on the Lady Tigers soccer team. Farrell scored seven goals and had two assists her sophomore year and has one assist this season.
Hofheins is a 3-year varsity letterman with 17 career goals and assists.
Dove is also a 3-year varsity letterman at goalkeeper. He was all- conference, district, region and state in 2014-15. He holds school records in shutouts in a season (15) and overall shutouts (38).
The SFCC Board of Trustees approved the proposal of adding four new sports – baseball, softball, and women’s and men’s soccer – in December. They approved the hiring of Eddie Horn, head coach at Jefferson City High School, as both women’s and men’s head coach at State Fair in January.
In a January interview, Horn said recruiting locally was a point of emphasis.
“Sedalia’s just always been a great soccer community,” Horn said. “I think that the soccer roots run deep in Sedalia.”
Smith-Cotton boys soccer finished 21-4 during the 2015-16 season. The Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers are currently 6-1 and host Warrensburg tonight at 5 p.m.
