Smithton man injured in Sedalia crash

A Smithton man was injured in a three-vehicle accident at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of South Limit Avenue and West 14th Street.

According to a Sedalia Police Department report, Howard Skeel, 52, of Smithton, was driving his motorcycle south on Limit Avenue when the vehicle in front of him began stopping. He attempted to move to the other lane but there was traffic so he accelerated and drove between both lanes of traffic.

After clearing traffic, he noticed another southbound vehicle, driven by Elizabeth A. Nedderman, 53, of the 800 block of Brentwood Avenue, had stopped ahead. Skeel attempted to stop but was unable to do so and struck the rear of Nedderman’s vehicle. Skeel then fell off his motorcycle.

Nedderman’s vehicle then struck the rear of another vehicle, driven by Conrad R. Petty, 50, of Columbia.

Skeel complained of pain in his hip and was taken by ambulance and later by helicopter to a medical facility.

Information is taken from preliminary Missouri State Highway Patrol and Sedalia Police Department reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved.
