A Sedalia man was arrested after a short vehicle and foot pursuit Monday morning.

According to a Sedalia Police Department report, at 10:50 a.m. an officer responded to the 1700 block of South Quincy Avenue for a report of a gray Ford pickup parked along the road with someone sleeping inside. After arriving on scene and providing vehicle information to dispatch, the officer was informed the vehicle had been reported stolen.

The officer woke up the occupant, identified as Richard L. Kohrs, 31, of the 400 block of North Hurley Avenue, who refused to exit the vehicle. He then took off in the vehicle. After a short vehicle pursuit and a brief foot pursuit, Kohrs was taken into custody and placed on a 24-hour hold at the Pettis County Jail pending the filing of formal charges.

SPD is requesting charges of first degree tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. The report states Kohrs was also arrested for a parole violation.

Citizens had speculated Monday morning that the arrest was the result of a bank robbery, but SPD officers told the Democrat that was not true.
