A family walks their horse back to the horse barns on the Missouri State Fairgrounds Thursday afternoon. The MSF 4-H and FFA Horse Show began Thursday with the first class, Pole Bending, starting around 2 p.m. The show will continue in the Mathewson Exhibition Center, the Coliseum and the Donnelly Arena through Sunday.
Sophia Bolser, 12, of Blackburn, and her mother Karen Bolser walk Sophia’s quarter horse Crowbie to the horse barns on the fairgrounds Thursday afternoon. Sophia, a member of the Lucky Leaf 4-H, planned to show her horse in the showmanship, horsemanship and games class during the MSF 4-H and FFA Horse Show.
Unpacking her gear, Keayra Kelson, 16, of Dallas County, nurses a dislocated right shoulder as she carries equipment into the horse barns on the fairgrounds Thursday. She said although she had taken a fall during a rodeo last week in Versailles that left her with seven staples in her head and a dislocated shoulder, she still planned to participate in the 4-H and FFA Horse Show. Kelson brought three horses, Chico, Miss Poco Top Bar and Cierra.
Many participants brought their horses into the Mathewson Exhibition Center to work with them before the start of the MSF 4-H and FFA Horse Show Thursday afternoon. The show events are open to the public and are free of charge.
