According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Delmer T. Nichols, 60, was driving a Freightliner north on state Route 13, a quarter-mile south of SE 650 Road, when his vehicle traveled off the road. It then returned to the road and he over-corrected. He then over-corrected a second time, causing the vehicle to overturn and strike a utility pole. Nichols was ejected.

Nichols, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Johnson County Coroner C. Holdren.

Four Sedalia residents sustained minor injuries in a single-vehicle accident at 2:43 p.m. Sunday in Pettis County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Sydney S. Long, 20, was driving south on Oak Grove Lane, a half-mile north of U.S. Highway 50, when she failed to slow for a railroad crossing. Her vehicle struck a dip in the road and she lost control of the vehicle, which traveled off the right side of the road and overturned.

Long and three passengers in her vehicle, Averi A. Baker, infant, Ayden J. Baker, 2, and Eli A. Baker, 1, were all taken by private vehicle to Bothwell Regional Health Center for their injuries.

Reports indicate Averi, Ayden and Eli were all using a safety device at the time of the accident, but Long was not.
