Groundbreaking ceremony held for new soup kitchen

Sedalia Mayor Stephen Galliher, left, speaks to Ron Ditzfeld Friday night at the Ditzfield Center to host the groundbreaking ceremony for the Open Door Soup Kitchen, which is scheduled to open this fall. “God smiles on this city,” said Galliher. “Whenever people need some help in this city, Sedalians pull together to make it happen.”

Open Door Executive Director Jack Menges thanks the audience attending the Open Door Soup Kitchen Groundbreaking ceremony Friday night. “Open Door is going to continue to do the things we do because we don’t want to serve the evening meal,” said Menges. “We’ll stick with lunch.”

Ron and Don Ditzfeld donated the land for the new OpenDoor Soup Kitchen next to the Ditzfeld Center on Pettis Street. “Open Door is a tremendous thing to do and I think Donnie’s done a great job with this,” said Ron Ditzfield. The groundbreaking was held inside the Ditzfeld Center due to rain.
