This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

May 20

6:21 p.m.: Chad M. Beatie, 43, of Peculiar, was arrested near the intersection of South Center Avenue and East Broadway Boulevard on a charge of driving with a suspended license.

7 p.m.: Justin B. Stevens, 33, of the 400 block of East Seventh Street, was arrested near the intersection of East Broadway Boulevard and state Route M on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Officers responded to a single-vehicle accident with injury. The suspect was driving west on East Broadway when the vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. The driver swerved to avoid a collision, causing the vehicle to spin and leave the road, landing in a field. He sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment.

May 21

9:39 a.m.: Gaudencio J. Cahales, 40, of the 600 block of East 10th Street, was arrested near the intersection of East 11th Street and South Ohio Avenue on charges of operating a vehicle without a valid license and identity theft.

6:17 p.m.: Blake R. Clapham, 29, of the 1300 block of East Boonville Road, was arrested in the 900 block of South Osage Avenue on charges of resisting arrest and second degree trespassing. An officer responded to a report of a subject yelling and trying to get into vehicles and houses. Using the suspect description given, officers found him behind a residence in the 1000 block of South Vermont Avenue. The officer made contact, explained what was going on, and the man ran. After a short foot pursuit, he was arrested.

9:38 p.m.: Tonnie Eugene Cook, 23, of the 1300 block of East 15th Street, was arrested at his residence on a charge of third degree assault on a law enforcement officer. An officer responded to a report of an intoxicated male being combative and acting crazy. The officer made contact with the suspect, who was lying on the floor of the residence passed out. When the officer tried to wake up the man, the suspect got on his knees, yelled and leaped, striking the officer’s leg.

10:05 p.m.: Timothy P. Leary, 46, of the 2700 block of South Stewart Avenue, was arrested at his residence on charges of third degree domestic assault, resisting arrest, fourth degree assault, possession of a controlled substance, possession of synthetic narcotics and possession of a controlled substance in a county jail. An officer responded to a report of a disturbance where a man allegedly assaulted another man known to him. When the officer attempted to arrest the suspect, the suspect assaulted the officer. Once at the Pettis County Jail, the suspect was found in possession of methamphetamine and a synthetic narcotic.

May 17

3:49 p.m.: An officer responded to Bothwell Regional Health Center for a report of child abuse. A parent said they witnessed the other parent abuse the infant victim, and also assaulted and held the reporting parent against their will. It was found that through improper care and lack of reporting the reporting parent was also endangering the child. The infant was removed from the parents. Charges are being sought against the reporting parent of endangering the welfare of a child. Charges are being sought against the second parent of child abuse, domestic assault and kidnapping.

May 19

10:46 a.m.: A hit-and-run vehicle accident was reported in a business parking lot in the 900 block of South Mitchell Road.

5:40 p.m.: A white 2012 Chevrolet Silverado was reported stolen in the 700 block of West 32nd Street. It is described as a crew cab, four-door, four-wheel drive, short-bed pickup. It was unlocked with the keys inside parked in a driveway.

May 20

6:46 a.m.: A child’s dirt bike, valued at $1,900, was reported stolen in the 3100 block of South Limit Avenue.

May 21

9:16 a.m.: A hit-and-run vehicle accident was reported in the 1700 block of South Grand Avenue.

May 22

9 a.m.: SPD received a referral from the Pettis County Children’s Division of child abuse in the 700 block of East 10th Street. An interview for the alleged victim has been scheduled with Child Safe of Central Missouri.

10:38 a.m.: A victim said a man called her husband and said he was with the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office, stating the husband had a warrant for his arrest. The caller said the husband needed to pay money in the form of money cards. They complied, purchasing $1,936.12 in money cards. They gave the card numbers to the caller and then cut them up as directed, then realized it was a scam.

May 21

3:47 p.m.: An assault was reported in the 100 block of West Walnut in Green Ridge. Charges are being sought for a known suspect.

May 22

7:10 a.m.: Deputies responded to a business in the 1400 block of North Grand Avenue in Sedalia for an attempted vehicle theft.

Arrests

May 20

8:40 p.m.: Thomas A. Burrows, 58, of Versailles, was arrested in Morgan County on charges of driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving involving an accident, violation of ignition interlock restriction and possession of a controlled substance.

May 21

1:15 a.m.: Jason A. VanBlaricon, 40, of Warsaw, was arrested in Henry County on charges of driving with a suspended license, no insurance and failure to comply with vision restriction.

8:30 p.m.: Joshua D. Brooks, 36, of Chilhowee, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving with a revoked license, no seat belt and failure to secure a child.
