Quick Hits: Three Tigers advance to sectionals

Jackson Kempton, Jerod Rosenbarker and Kendall Weymuth advanced to Class 4 boy’s golf sectionals after guiding Smith-Cotton to a fourth-place finish at districts.

Smith-Cotton had a team total of 331 in the Class 4, District 5 tournament Tuesday at Grey Life Golf and Fitness Golf Course in Lebanon.

Kempton led the Tigers with a 6-over 78, good for 7th place. Rosenbarker was one stroke behind in 10th place. Weymuth carded an 83 to advance.

Lebanon’s Cooper Hess was medalist, firing a 75. Lebanon shot 301, one stroke better than Glendale, to claim the team tournament.

The Class 4, Sectional 3 tournament is scheduled for Monday at Hoot’s Hollow Golf Course in Pleasant Hill.

Stover advances to sectionals

The Bulldogs finished runner-up Tuesday at Rolling Hills Country Club in Versailles, advancing its lineup to sectionals at Redfield Country Club in Eugene.

Iberia won the team title, carding a 399. Stover totaled 403 and Tipton finished at 406.

Gannon Withers of New Bloomfield was medalist, shooting a 74.

Tristan Bolin led Tipton with an 88, finishing third. Brock Bookout followed at 91.

Bryant Carpenter and Mitchell Moon will join Bolin and Bookout at sectionals.

Brenden Bauer paced Stover with a 24-over, 2-round score of 95.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Northwest 11, Sacred Heart 1

Northwest 12, Cole Camp 2

The Mustangs picked up a pair of conference wins at Cole Camp on Tuesday.

Northwest (13-4) face La Monte on the road 5 p.m. Wednesday.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Lincoln 10, Lakeland 0

Lincoln 12, Skyline 2

The Lady Cardinals advanced to the spring season District 14 tournament final with two victories Tuesday in Lincoln.

Sloan Swearngin was in the circle for Lincoln in both games.

The District 14 tournament is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Lincoln.

Smithton 21, Otterville 6 (F/3)

Marissa Gertz and Madison Brown homered in a 21-6, 3-inning victory over Otterville in the District 15 tournament in La Monte.

Brown struck out five in two innings and collected as many RBIs.

Audrey Williams was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.

Tori Klein drove in two and scored twice on a single and triple.

Cheleste Chandler delivered the game-winner with a 2-RBI single.

Smithton hosts La Monte 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

La Monte 26, Tipton 18

The Lady Vikings out-lasted Tipton in a 26-18 victory in the District 15 tournament in La Monte.

La Monte overcame a 10-run deficit and performed two more comebacks to advance.
