Bothwell Regional Health Center announced last week it purchased the assets affiliated with the Sedalia Imaging Center located at 1430 Thompson Boulevard.
The independent imaging center, which opened in 2010, closed its doors Feb. 13. All of the former Sedalia Imaging Center employees, except one, have been hired by BRHC.
“We were approached by the owners of the Sedalia Imaging Center about whether we would have an interest in purchasing the center’s assets,” Jimmy Robertson, chief executive officer of BRHC, said in a news release. “After careful consideration, we decided it would benefit patients, the community and BRHC to do so because it would allow us to right-size imaging services in Sedalia.”
There are 13 equity-holders listed on the acquisition contract: Donald Allcorn, Donald Eldenburg, Allison Fischer, Douglas W. Kiburz, Michael Perusich, Elmer Van Dyke, Central Family Medicine, Ryan Edwards, Steven Eldenberg, Robert Frederickson, Robert K. Murray, Anthony Sikoutris and Stanley J. Wilson.
Robertson told the Democrat the imaging center was a direct competitor to BRHC. The price for the center’s assets was about $860,000.
Starting March 6, BRHC will offer extended hours for an MRI, CT scan or X-ray at the hospital, according to the release. The new hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. BRHC will also begin offering pregnant women the option to have elective gender-reveal and 3D/4D ultrasounds at Bothwell OB/GYN Associates, located at 3700 W. 10th St. The 3D/4D ultrasounds came from the Sedalia Imaging Center.
“In addition to the extended imaging hours at the hospital, and the gender-reveal and 3D/4D ultrasounds at Bothwell OB/GYN Associates, there are other benefits to patients from this consolidation,” Robertson said. “Self-pay patients who need imaging services at BRHC do not have to pay upfront for imaging services. They can finance their payments interest-free through an arrangement between BRHC and Central Bank of Sedalia.”
Robertson said BRHC isn’t sure what it will do with the Thompson Boulevard property. Staff has looked at possibilities such as using it as a pain management center or opening an urgent care center.
“This whole transaction was a great opportunity for Bothwell and local physicians to work together,” Robertson said.
