The State Fair Community College Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of men’s and women’s soccer coach Eddie Horn during Tuesday’s meeting.
Horn will soon be announced as the the men’s assistant coach at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He said he will be involved at SFCC in the weeks required to install his successor.
“I am appreciative of the opportunity State Fair gave me. Financially and professionally, it was the right choice. For my heart it was hard,” Horn said. “I was not looking to leave. When the opportunity came along, I couldn’t turn it down.”
Both SFCC teams were informed this week. Horn expressed optimism for the respective programs’ futures, and offered advice of patience to the next coach.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day,” Horn said. “Stay patient. I think the community will continue to support it and there’s no doubt in my mind it will become a winning program again. There’s a great core of players coming back and I think they’ll be successful in year two.”
State Fair reintroduced men’s soccer for the 2016 season, along with the inaugural season of women’s soccer. The Board of Trustees approved the addition of the programs — along with baseball and softball — in December 2015, and hired Horn in January 2016.
