The Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education will discuss budget amendments for Fiscal Year 2017 during tonight’s board meeting.
Some cuts to the budget will be discussed as the district must grapple with a statewide $146 million cut to the state’s general fund put into place by Gov. Eric Greitens. While the governor did preserve most kindergarten through 12th grade programs, Sedalia School District 200 will face some cuts to transportation funding from the state. However, the district is prepared to recoup those losses through reserves for the current fiscal year.
Projected revenues for the district are $50,529,912 for the current fiscal year while current expenditures are $52,447,116. The revenue differences are related to adjustments for the state formula and actual approved federal budgets. The expenditure differences are due to the same outgoing grant expenditures, payroll changes and high school construction amounts after the preliminary budget was approved.
The final amendments to the budget will be discussed during the meeting.
The district will also discuss any changes to policy and regulation and bids will be heard for remodeling of the cafeteria at Smith-Cotton Junior High School. The district plans to remodel the junior high cafe including doors, plumbing, the HVAC system and remodeling electrical wiring. These are the only plans for construction for the remainder of the fiscal year.
Finally, the board will hear a presentation on the district’s Comprehensive School Improvement plan for future construction projects and representatives from State Fair Community College will give a presentation on SFCC’s Building Strong Futures bond measure on the April 4 ballot, which will go toward the construction of a new technical education facility at the college and to fund building renovations on existing facility to create effective and efficient learning spaces.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Whittier High School, 907 E. 16th St.
