The Pettis County R-V Board of Education announced the hiring of Joel Sherman as the new principal of Northwest Elementary School effective July 1.
“I’m super excited,” Sherman said. “This will be a good move to start my administrative career.”
Sherman brings 22 years of experience and a background in instructional leadership, community collaboration and student behavior management. Sherman said he is passionate about serving others and will be very intentional with building relationships with students, staff and parents.
Sherman is the process coordinator and nonviolent crisis intervention instructor in the Sedalia School District 200. Prior to being a process coordinator, he was a special education teacher, physical education teacher, and head wrestling coach. Sherman has a masters degree in Educational Administration and bachelor’s degrees in Physical Education and Special Education. He is pursing his educational specialist degree from William Woods University.
“The Pettis Co. R-V School District feels blessed to have such a dynamic leader and we look forward to having Mr. Sherman as the newest Mustang,” Superintendent Cody Hirschi said.
Sherman said he has been looking at an administrative move for a few years. He also said he is looking forward to getting to know the staff, students and parents of Northwest Elementary School. He also said he will continue to “build pride” at the school.
Northwest Elementary Principal Jo Ellen Black resigned her position effective Jan. 16. Bill Betteridge, a retired educator and former principal at Heber Hunt Elementary School in Sedalia, has been the interim principal at Northwest Elementary since that time. Black remains with the district as a curriculum development coordinator.
