Lincoln boy’s basketball scored 46 points in the first half before its starters rested in the second. The Cardinals’ reserves, however, did not miss a beat in a 73-30 Otterville Holiday Classic victory Thursday against Kingsville.
The Cardinals advance to face the winner between Smithton and Otterville for the tournament championship, scheduled 4 p.m. Saturday in Otterville.
Boone Kroenke led the Lincoln offense with 17 points and Mason Sanders added 14 as all but two rostered Cardinals scored.
With an 11-point lead after the first quarter, Lincoln racked up nine steals and held Kingsville scoreless for five minutes. The Cardinals (11-1) led 46-20 at halftime.
Aaron Yearout, Corbin Reese, Aaron Kranz, Tyler Reinke and Grant Eifert took the floor for Lincoln in the third quarter, taking a 9-0 run into the game’s waning minutes.
Tyler Burke, Lincoln head coach, said the second unit play with a different style than the starters, and offer a peek into next year’s basketball season.
“With those guys, we know they’re going to be a different type of team,” Burke said. “They’re going to have more size and be a little more set-oriented — a little less run-and-gun.”
Blake Roberts who had two points, assists and three rebounds, exited the game with an injury in the second quarter.
