Woods Supermarkets has officially confirmed it will be opening a second location in Sedalia after the Democrat reported on the new location last week.

A new release issued Tuesday afternoon announces a second Woods location will be located at 1400 S. Limit Ave., the former home of Bing’s West, in the State Fair Shopping Center. According to the release, the company plans to open the new store by the end of February after remodeling and updating the interior of the 35,000-square-foot building.

“Woods Supermarkets is celebrating our 70th anniversary this year and we are excited to be kicking it off with the opening of the new Sedalia store,” Woods Supermarket Chief Executive Officer Craig Easter said in the release. “Woods has been serving Sedalia families since 1994 when it purchased the former Food Barn store at Broadway and Ohio. That location was closed in April 2008, when Woods built and opened the 38,000-square-foot current Woods Supermarket at 701 E. Broadway.

“Family owned since 1947, Woods has always strived to be the ‘best hometown grocer’ in Sedalia and each of the communities we serve,” Easter continued. “As a company, we are a member of the Chamber of Commerce and support area schools, churches, local food banks, charities, youth/senior groups and the community as a whole. We encourage our employees to get involved in volunteering to make their/our hometowns better places to live. For over 22 years, Sedalia has been good to Woods Supermarket, and we believe Woods has been good to Sedalia. The Woods family is excited to expand our presence in the Sedalia area.”

Woods purchased Bing’s Pharmacies’ prescriptions in July and opened a new Woods Pharmacy next to Bing’s East on Aug. 4. According to the news release, the pharmacy will be moved back inside the new store, and the pharmacy staff will all be making the move to the new Woods Supermarket.

The new location will have a meat department with professional butchers on duty, in-store seven days a week, and it will offer a full-service butcher shop meat case where customers can get personal service in selecting special cuts of meat.

The produce department will be updated with new display tables for a larger variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, both conventional grown and organic, and both stores will offer a wide selection of locally grown produce items when possible.

The expanded bakery will feature daily fresh-baked breads and rolls. The deli will feature a larger “Grab ’n’ Go” deli section and a new reach-in, self-service hot food case for rotisserie chickens.

The new Sedalia store will be Woods’ 12th supermarket, all located in Missouri, including Bolivar, Buffalo, Warrensburg, Sunrise Beach, Osage Beach, Lake Ozark, Eldon, Nevada, Stockton and El Dorado Springs.

Applications can be picked up and dropped off at Woods Supermarket, 701 E. Broadway Blvd., or Woods Pharmacy next to the new location at 1400 S. Limit St.
