SFCC to present fall concerts Oct. 16-17

The State Fair Community College Music Arts program will present its fall concerts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus

The program will feature the SFCC Chamber Choir, Jazz Choir and Jazz Runners Band performing a cornucopia of music from the polyphony of the Baroque to the swinging rhythm of the Big Band era.

Vocal jazz selections will include the standards “Do Nothing Till You Hear from Me,” “Dear Heart” and “Peel Me a Grape.” The Chamber Choir will perform music by Ryan Murphy, Joseph Martin and Moses Hogan in addition to several recent compositions by new choral composers. Jazz Runners Band selections will include such standards as “Birdland,” “Fly Me to the Moon” and “Route 66.”

The choirs are under the direction of Ron Sayer, Music Arts program coordinator and instructor, and the jazz band is under the direction of Britt Faaborg, adjunct instructor of music. Staff accompanist Gwendolyn Kappelman will accompany the choirs.

Tickets are $6 per person and groups of 10 or more are half price. Tickets also may be purchased at the door.

Wheelchair seating is available upon request one week prior to the concert. Admission is free to SFCC students and employees.
