Leeton man arrested, injured in crash
A Leeton man was arrested for driving while intoxicated at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday in Johnson County.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Billy D. Pickard, 22, was driving an ATV east on Colorado Midland Railway, east of SW 101 Road, when his vehicle struck a tree that was across the trail. His vehicle overturned, ejecting Pickard.
Pickard was taken by private vehicle to Western Missouri Medical Center, then later transferred to St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, with serious injuries. He was exempt from using a safety device.
Pickard was arrested on charges of operating an ATV while under the influence of alcohol, operating an ATV on a highway, and operating an unregistered ATV.
Man injured in Johnson accident
A Bates City man sustained moderate injuries in a single-vehicle accident at 2:59 a.m. Wednesday in Johnson County.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Neil J. Shelton, 59, was driving west in the 1600 block of NW 785 Road when he entered a curve and his vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, striking a mailbox. The vehicle continued west through the grass, where it struck a decorative fence, an electrical box and a tree.
Shelton, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Lee’s Summit Medical Center for his injuries.
Sedalia bicyclist injured in local crash
A Sedalia man was injured in an accident while riding his bicycle at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23 near the intersection of West 24th Street and South Moniteau Avenue.
According to a Sedalia Police Department report, Robert Romsby, 51, of the 22000 block of state Route H, was riding a bicycle west on West 24th Street when he tried to get the attention of a driver, Jerry Jones, 65, of the 1300 block of East Seventh Street. As Romsby began to ride up along the driver’s side of Jones’ vehicle, Jones began to make a left turn into a parking lot. Romsby struck the driver’s side front quarter panel of the vehicle and was knocked onto the pavement.
Romsby was taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center with injuries to his nose, elbows and legs.
Jones stated he never saw Romsby coming up next to his vehicle.
