Sedalia KCP&L employees have given back to the community in the first half of 2016 by supporting many local projects.
The Sedalia Service Center consists of 22 personnel including lineman, field service professionals, support and office administrators. The employees are involved with numerous local events, such as the KCP&L-sponsored Harvesters food drive from April 18-29, with fundraising events happening throughout the company. This was a competitive campaign among service centers, power plant and corporate employees to support local food banks, with recognition to the centers or groups who raise the most money for Harvesters.
Sedalia’s efforts earned them the top spot in the company raising $13,200. Sedalia lineman Brad Bergeson led the local campaign which started with a Kickoff Breakfast on April 18. A luncheon was hosted April 21 followed by competitive trivia, games and raffles, all of which raised money for the campaign. All money raised at the Sedalia Service Center stays local and is donated to Open Door Ministries.
Open Door Ministries is a nonprofit organization which provides food and assistance for residents of Sedalia and surrounding communities.
KCP&L matches 50 cents to the dollar raised by employees. With the match, the Sedalia Service Center will donate about $20,000 to Open Door Ministries. Every dollar raised provides three meals. Money raised by the Sedalia Service Center should provide 39,600 meals.
In addition to the Harvesters campaign, local employees contribute to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home, Community Santa, Benton County Christmas for Kids, and Toys for Tots. They also participate in the United Way campaign and the Community Café.
