The final leg of the Travelers’ journey has begun.
Zone tournament postseason play for the Post 642 Sedalia Travelers begins Wednesday at Hidden Valley Sports Complex in Blue Springs, Missouri against the sixth-seeded Post 11 St. Joseph. The Travelers enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Entering the tournament with a roster at full-strength, Sedalia head coach Jeff Mays is confident in Post 642’s chances. The Travelers defeated Post 11 by mercy rule twice on July 11.
”That’s kind of when we started hitting the ball really well,” Mays said of the previous St. Joe matchups. “They do have some good pitching, and we’ll have to continue to hit that well to give ourselves an opportunity.”
Gable Dull is scheduled to start at pitcher for Sedalia. He pitched nine innings combined in two recent games at the Mid-America Premier Championships July 12 and 16. Mays extended his confidence to Wednesday’s starter.
“I think he’s ready,” Mays said. “He was gone for about three weeks, but he threw a couple games early, and we’ve got him tuned-back-in and ready to go.”
Sedalia falls to the loser’s bracket and play at 1 p.m. Thursday with a loss, and will face the winner of Rod’s A’s and William Chrisman Thursday at 7 p.m. in Sedalia with a victory.
