Just a week after Patricia’s Mexican & More closed, it was announced Wednesday that El Tapatio will soon be the building’s new tenant.
El Tapatio announced on its Facebook page it will be moving from its location on West Broadway Boulevard to the old Patricia’s location, 3000 S. Limit Ave.
“My (current) lease ends next year, and they’re going to sell the building where I am at, so there was the opportunity to move to Patricia’s so I took it,” said H.A. Perez, owner of El Tapatio. “It’s of course a better location, it’s made to be a restaurant. We’ll be fixing up some things. Over there also, the parking lot, that’s the main reason. Where I am at is only for 16 or 18 places, over there is almost 100. That’s a big benefit.”
Perez, who owns El Tapatio with his wife, said he is leasing the building from the new owners. Patricia’s owner Gary Farr told the Democrat earlier this month he signed the papers to sell the building to two local businessmen Aug. 28, and the transaction is expected to be complete by Sept. 30.
The new location is expected to be open the last week of October.
“I’d like to do it before, but getting liquor licenses, the signs, all those little things take time, but hopefully (it will open by the) end of October,” Perez said.
He also said only the location will be changing — the menu, employees and owners of El Tapatio will remain the same.
“We’re very happy and excited,” Perez said. “(Wednesday) me and my family went to look at it, Gary (Farr) was kind enough to show us everything, every single thing, where things are. It’s a great, great location. A great, great place.”
