Clarinda A’s starter Matt Mullenbach kept the Sedalia Bombers’ bats as quiet as ever Friday at Liberty Park.
The Bombers (1-5) had five hits in a 5-1 loss to Clarinda. Jack Mercer tied the game at 1-1 in the second with a sacrifice fly to center. Mullenbach stymied Sedalia for five more innings, striking out six and walking three. He didn’t walk any batters after allowing a run.
Clarinda followed with lefty Luke LeBlanc, who faced seven batters in two scoreless innings and struck out one.
Evan Dodd pitched five innings for Sedalia, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks. Dalton Christian allowed two runs in the fifth and seventh innings, and Aaron Armstrong pitched a scoreless frame in the ninth, striking out Clarinda leadoff batter Alex Henwood.
Dillon Millar put the A’s on the board in the second with an RBI single that scored Nick Gaddis.
Wells Davis extended gave Clarinda a 3-1 lead with a 2-RBI single off Christian. The A’s scored another pair in the seventh on three hits and a walk, pushing the lead to 5-1.
The Bombers face the Joplin Outlaws on Saturday at 7 p.m., and continue their weekend doubleheader Sunday at 6 p.m.
