When sprint car racing returns to the Missouri State Fair Speedway next Friday, MAV TV will offer a glimpse of Sedalia to the rest of the world.

Lucas Oil-owned television channel MAV TV is scheduled to broadcast the June 17 ASCS Sprint Car series event. Race promoter Gerry Olson also booked an A Modifieds race with the cancellation of the WAR Series race earlier this week.

Olson said he was ecstatic to have MAV TV at the races.

“I think it is a big deal,” Olson said. “It gives Sedalia prominence. It gives the fairgrounds notoriety. You’re there to showcase your track and the city, of course. I think it’s an integral part of what we’re doing here. It’s pivotal, I think. Anytime you can have national and, actually, around-the-world recognition, there’s a lot to promote both the fairgrounds and Sedalia itself.”

Hot laps begin at 7 p.m. and racing begins at 8 p.m.

Another draw to the track next week includes the addition of A Mods to the field. Olson said fans and drivers alike requested the popular class, and the WAR Series withdrawing opened up a spot.

The race is an open show in which USRA rules apply with a $150 fee to start and $1,000 prize to win.

“They’re a little safer than the non-winged cars,” Olson said.

He said he expects about 30 A Mods at the race. Next Friday’s race is part of ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek, a weeklong event hosting six races in seven days. The June 18 race in Wheatland, Missouri is exclusive to sprint cars, and Olson said that will help the A Mods draw in Sedalia one day earlier.

He also said the added class minimizes intermissions for vehicle repair.

“Anytime you go to a sprint car-only event, there’s going to be some downtime,” Olson said. “This will kind of fill the dead time and keep the show moving along.”

The ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek begins Saturday, June 11 and visits Sedalia the Friday, June 17. MAV TV is available for DirectTV and Verizon customers in Sedalia.
