A stout defense led the way as the Smith-Cotton JV football team pounded Nevada, 44-6, Monday night at Tiger Stadium.

S-C held an 8-0 lead at the half on a one-yard touchdown run by Brice Pannier, with Gauge Young adding the two-point conversion. The S-C offense exploded in the second half, with rushing touchdowns by Pannier (43 yards), Jaden Kendrick (27, 16) and Young (55).

The S-C defense pitched in on the scoring when Chandler Koetting blocked a punt, which Kaneif Balark returned for a touchdown. Nevada’s lone score came in a 65-yard kickoff return by Spencer Hawkins.

S-C (4-0) travels to O’Hara on Monday, Sept. 28.
