Several local drivers competed at the Double-X Speedway in California, Missouri on Saturday. The circuit featured winged sprint cars, street stocks, hobby stocks and 600cc micro sprint cars.
California local Randy Martin claimed victory in the winged sprint car feature, edging Sedalia’s Jonathan Cornell and fellow California natives Tyler Blank and Evan Martin. Marshall’s Miles Paulus rounded out the top five in the No. 48 car.
Cornell spun on turn one to prompt a caution flag allowing Martin the lead. Sedalian TJ Muths finished seventh.
Steve Beach, Eldon, earned a victory in an 11-car street stock field in the No. 10 car.
Warrensburg’s Kameron Key won the seven-car micro sprint feature, taking advantage of one of the few local tracks for his car. He said the track raced well and was in good condition for two lanes.
“Mini-sprints don’t have very many places besides California and Sweet Springs,” Key said. “The track was good. I had to start in the back of the heat race and was able to go high. In the feature I ended up passing (Jimmy Dowell) low, but I could have gone high. I passed several cars running high. There were two two grooves, which is good.”
Another California local, Rudy Wirts, in the No. 2X car, won his fourth feature in as many tries. Sedalia’s Mike Schrader was runner-up and Windsor’s Chick Coffey finished third in the seven-car feature.
