A Sedalia woman has been charged after she allegedly tried to hire someone to kill her husband.
According to court documents, a confidential informant for the Missouri State Highway Patrol notified an officer of a conversation they had in late April with Terry R. Johnson, 45, and Wendy Sue McGinnis, 43, both of the 1200 block of South Harrison Avenue, during which McGinnis said she was willing to pay someone to kill her husband. She claimed her husband sexually assaulted her daughter years ago, and mentioned her husband had a life insurance policy in which she was the beneficiary.
The informant met with the pair again a week later and McGinnis again spoke about giving away part of the money made on the life insurance policy for someone to kill her husband.
On May 12, a MSHP sergeant met with McGinnis in Sedalia and she initially said she only wanted him hurt, but changed her mind and agreed to pay the man $25,000 to have her husband killed.
McGinnis told the sergeant she wanted the murder to look like an accident, describing her husband’s property and how to find his trailer. She also described where her husband cut firewood on the property and said she wanted it to appear as if a tree fell on top of him.
Johnson and McGinnis have both been charged with first degree conspiracy to commit murder.
Johnson is at the Pettis County Jail on a $250,000 bond, cash or surety, and McGinnis is at the jail on a $1 million bond, cash or surety. Both have special condition to have no contact or communication of any kind with the victim. An arraignment took place Monday morning at the Pettis County Courthouse for both subjects. Online court records do not list an attorney for Johnson or McGinnis.
According to court documents, a Warrensburg woman was granted a protection order against Johnson in March for stalking. He also has a long list of traffic offenses and a shoplifting charge. Court documents list only a few minor past charges for McGinnis.
